Non-profit 4 All Kids helps feed children of Des Moines
Angie Ramos has always been passionate about cooking.
"I just had to figure out a way how to make ends meet and started cooking and it just developed," Ramos said.
Ramos started a catering business, Hot Tamale Catering, but most recently, she has been inspired to help children.
"When a 10-year-old girl comes in here asking for a job and she has little siblings with her... I of course said 'No, I can't hire you, but is there something I can help you with? Are you hungry? Would you like some food?'" Ramos said.
Angie said the girl said yes, and came back with more siblings. Shortly after, her non-profit, 4 All Kids was created.
The non-profit started off with Ramos feeding the kids that came to her, but this school year, the group is bringing the food to students across Des Moines every Wednesday.
For the first week that the group brought food to students, they went to Lincoln High. And they had extra help from some of the Iowa Barnstormers.
Ramos knows what it's like to go hungry as a child.
"I was that kid," she said.
Ramos says Lincoln High is the only school that gave them the okay so far, but it's her hope other principals will reach out, too, because she and the 4 All Kids team have mouths to feed.
"We're all gonna go someday. Why am I here? I'm gonna be forgotten of course, but let me have my joy for now," Ramos said.
